4 Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines Sailings With A Difference

Cruise lines are always thinking of new ways to take people to fantastic destinations around the world. With so much choice out there for you, the guest, it’s important to come up with ideas that stand out and which offer something a little bit different from the norm.

That’s exactly what Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has done with the four cruises below. We’ve selected some exciting itineraries that may pique your interest and provide a great alternative to a conventional sailing.

Mystery Closer Cruise

Mystery Cruise

Usually, the itinerary of a specific cruise will be a big reason why you choose it, but that is not the case with this option. Decide to sail on board Braemar on either 7th September 2019 or 24th May 2020 and you won’t be told anything about where you’re going. Each port will be kept under wraps until the last possible moment, allowing the anticipation to build on board as you and your fellow passengers speculate where the ship may dock that day.

This is a great choice if you’re undecided as to where you want to visit next or you just don’t mind. All destinations will be selected by the experienced captain and you’re sure to discover plenty of favourites and some places you’ve never been before.

Four Fred.s In Funchal

Captain's In Cadiz

This will be the third event that Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has organised to get all four of their ships in the same place at the same time. In 2015, it was ‘4 Bs in Bergen’ as the vessels arrived in the Norwegian port together and, in 2018, the event was named ‘Captains in Cadiz’. So, next year, Braemar, Boudicca, Balmoral and Black Watch will meet up yet again, this time on the Portuguese island of Madeira.

To be part of this fantastic festival at sea, you have four different options. Each ship will have a different itinerary leading up to the day in Funchal and will also visit different ports afterwards. If you’re keen to explore the Canary Islands, Balmoral is where you need to be. If the Azores sound exciting, Black Watch can take you there. If you would rather discover Cape Verde, climb aboard Boudicca. And, if you want to see more of the Spanish and Portuguese main lands, Braemar will be visiting La Coruña, Vigo, Lisbon and Avilés.

As well as the chance to photograph all four ships together, you’ll be able to tour the decks of the other three vessels and enjoy a day of celebration.

Cruise To Nowhere

Nowhere Sign

At first glance, a cruise that doesn’t take you to any exotic destinations may not be one that you consider entertaining. However, when you realise that this represents the perfect chance to relax, recharge the batteries and sample the facilities on board Black Watch, it may not be such a bad idea after all.

The cruise sails from Southampton to Liverpool, offering you the chance to enjoy two nights on board. Perhaps you are unsure whether cruising is for you and you just want a taste of what this kind of holiday can offer, or perhaps you don’t know which of the Fred. Olsen ships to choose and you want to see if Black Watch is suited to you. Either way, you can put your feet up and experience a small dose of what cruising is all about.

Ocean River Cruises

Balmoral In Kiel Canal

Typically, you have to make the decision whether you want to sail on an ocean cruise or a river cruise, but Fred. Olsen’s ocean river cruises offer the best of both worlds. Sail on board one of their smaller, friendlier ocean ships into the heart of destinations in France, Germany the Netherlands via some of Europe’s most loved rivers.

There are plenty of itineraries to choose from, taking you to ports that larger vessels can’t reach: Ghent, Rouen, Antwerp. It’s the ideal way to visit river cruise destinations on board a ship that offers a larger choice of facilities compared to a river cruise ship.
