  12:00am Amsterdam, Netherlands
Dutch engineering-its dams, sea gates, and the 19-mile dyke walling out the Zuider Zee-prevent this low-lying country from being reclaimed by the North Sea. The marsh that originally surrounded Amsterdam has steadily disappeared beneath the expanding city, where many of the buildings are supported by an estimated five million wood caissons driven into the mire. Vibrant, fascinating and always alive, Amsterdam is imbued with the quality the Dutch call "gezelligheid." Explore the city's 700-year-old streets, marvel at its stepped-gable houses, cruise down its bustling canals, and browse its colourful flower markets.

12:00am Western Scheldt River, At Sea, Netherlands
Ship Deck
Located in the province of Zeeland in the Netherlands, the Western Scheldt River is an estuary of the Scheldt River, and is the only direct way to the North Sea.  An important shipping route for the port of Antwerp, the Western Scheldt River is formed in the east where the Schelde River enters the Netherlands from Belgium. An interesting route to cruise along, there are no bridges across the river, only a tunnel running from Ellewoutsdijk to Terneuzen, or foot ferries.

The Seine is regarded as one of the great historic rivers in Europe, flowing 485 miles from Burgundy in a north-westerly direction to Normandy via Paris. It therefore provides an ideal link between the French capital and the sea. Five tributaries feed into the Seine including the Marne, Aube, Loing, Yonne, and Oise, which are in addition to a series of canals which link the Seine to the Loire, Rhine and Rhone rivers.

  12:00am Rouen, France
The first thing you will notice as you approach Rouen is the Cathedral of Notre Dame, towering high above the city, its 490 foot cast-iron spire the tallest in France. Get lost in the old town where half-timbered houses line a labyrinth of lanes, and stop for a moment at the Rehabilitation Cross, marking the spot where in 1431 Joan of Arc was consigned to the flames.
