With a fleet of 15 ships, Holland America offers premium cruising on board mid-sized ships. The ambiance is created by priceless works of art and freshly cut flowers, whilst the beds are topped with fine Egyptian linens. Many of the staterooms feature private balconies and they all have finer touches like fluffy bathrobes and complimentary fruit. The fascinating shore excursions have been chosen to match the experience on board and overnight stays invite you to linger longer in the best destinations.
A range of partnerships with third parties enhance your time on board the ships, including internet centres powered by the New York Times and destination guides from AFAR. BBC Earth’s programmes are shown on your stateroom TV and a range of kid’s activities help them discover the natural world. Finally, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has donated a series of reproductions of the most famous art within its walls.
The recently renovated ms Eurodam is now home to a range of new entertainment venues and performances, including BB King’s All Star Blues band. Improvements to the staterooms mean that lighted wardrobe rails and USB charging ports on the headboards have been added.
With a great choice of stylish staterooms and spectacular suites, there are plenty of accommodation options to suit many different budgets on board Holland America Line’s 15 ships. At the lower end of the scale there are interior and ocean-view staterooms which offer two beds that can be converted to a queen, an elegant en-suite, ample storage space and a separate sitting area.
Going further up the grades there are verandah and spa verandah suites available which include the addition of a furnished balcony; perfect for private dining or watching the scenery glide by.
Finally, there are Pinnacle and Neptune suites on offer which are considerably larger, include a king-size bed, have many mod-cons such as a microwave and private stereo system, and even have a whirlpool on the spacious veranda. Guests staying in these premium suites will also receive access to the exclusive Neptune Lounge where they can receive concierge service, access complementary Wi-Fi and dine at the Pinnacle Grill.
Anyone choosing a Holland America cruise will also be able to enjoy their unique Mariner’s Dream™ beds which provide a relaxing and rejuvenating night’s sleep.
With a distinct range of dining options and Holland America’s unique ‘As You Wish®’ attitude to eating on-board, there are so many amazing culinary experiences to be had. In a nutshell, As You Wish® allows you to dine as and when you like without having to book in advance if you don’t want to. You are free to dine in as many of the different restaurants as you like; choosing from different types of cuisine and between lighter and more formal options.
The main dining room on each ship will have various names, but they all are two-tiered and elegantly decorated; creating the perfect space in which to enjoy your meal. The highest quality linens, glassware and china help to add to an experience which is truly excellent from start to finish.
Other restaurants on board include the Pinnacle grill which lives up to its name by offering only the best dishes and exquisite service, the Canaletto Restaurant which gives guests the chance to taste some refined Italian cuisine, and the Lido Restaurant which is perfect for light lunches and meals set in a slightly more relaxed environment. Passengers sailing on board ms Eurodam and ms Nieuw Amsterdam can also sample some Asian delights in the sumptuous Tamarind Restaurant.
As well as these permanent dining areas, there will also be some more temporary options that come and go throughout your cruise. On a specific night the Pinnacle Grill will be transformed as the atmosphere and dishes from the world famous Le Cirque restaurants are welcomed on board. The Holland America Line’s Master Chef Rudi Sodamin has worked closely with Craig Hopson, executive chef at Le Cirque, in order to offer this pop up dining option.
Along with Le Cirque, the Pinnacle Grill is also turned into Michelin Star Chef Jonnie Boer’s Dutch restaurant, De Librije, for one night on every sailing. For one night only, guests will have the chance to experience ‘a taste of De Librige’ as they enjoy a five course menu that starts with scallops and then gives you the option to choose the rest of your meal from a range of options. Finally, passengers on board ms Nieuw Amsterdam can also step into the Master Chef’s Room for a seven course extravaganza created by Master Chef Rudi Sodamin.
Although there is a lot of free space for guests to move around in, there are also many great facilities that fill each Holland America ship. If you are looking to completely relax then the Greenhouse Spa and Salon should definitely be the first stop on your tour of your vessel. Conversely, if you would rather be more active, the excellent facilities in the onboard fitness centre and the tennis, volleyball and basketball courts are sure to be very appealing.
Entertainment comes in the form of the exciting casino, if you are feeling lucky enough, whilst thrilling stage shows and enchanting films from the open-air movie theatre will keep you going well into the night. There’s also the chance to do a bit of shopping in the boutique, take some cookery, dancing or wine tasting classes, or just marvel at the extensive on board collections of art.
And with excellent programmes for younger guests, single cruisers, and those who like the idea of getting married at sea; it seems as though there really is a Holland America cruise for everyone.
Holland America pride themselves on offering a great deal of shore excursions that range from relaxing sightseeing tours to thrilling activities that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Whilst there is a great focus on ensuring everything is safe and convenient for guests to take part in, the extensive list of things to do in each port means that each passenger is sure to find something that takes their fancy.
Rousing excursions include ATV adventures and bobsled rides in Jamaica and jeep safaris in South Africa, whilst the more serine options will include experiencing a Luau in Hawaii and a flamenco dinner show in Barcelona.
