Upgrades To CocoCay Will Create The Perfect Day
If the launch of Symphony of the Seas, now the largest cruise ship in the world, wasn’t exciting enough for Royal Caribbean and anybody who loves to cruise with them, details emerged recently of how they plan to reinvent their private island in the Bahamas, CocoCay. Currently, many of Royal Caribbean’s ships stop at this sandy paradise, but your time in this exclusive spot is about to get even more exciting.
Along with plans to bring new dining experiences and activities to ships in the current fleet, such as Independence of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas, the cruise line is planning to spend billions of dollars expanding the facilities on the island. Set to start in September 2018 and be completed by summer 2019, the new additions will create the ‘Perfect Day at CocoCay’. Here is a taste of what you can look forward to.
With a variety of pools and slides to choose from, this is likely to be the most exciting part of the island for thrill-seekers. There will be a wave pool, the tallest waterslide in North America and slides aimed specifically at families. Children will also be able to play amongst the drench buckets and super soakers of the biggest Splashaway Bay yet.
Located close to the waterpark area, the zipline will offer an experience that has become a popular part of the Oasis Class ships. You will travel a total of 1,600 feet before splashing down into the harbour.
It might be hard to get a real sense of how big CocoCay is from the ground, but you can see it all from the basket of this balloon. Lift-off high above the other cruisers and enjoy spectacular views out to sea.
In a more relaxed part of the island, where you can rent paddleboards and snorkels, you will also have the chance to do some zorbing. Challenge a friend or family member to a race and see who can stay on their feet the longest.
If you would like to chill out during your Perfect day at CocoCay, there are two types of cabanas that will offer the perfect environment in which you can take it easy. Beachside cabanas can hold up to six people, whilst the first ever overwater cabanas in the Bahamas are slightly bigger and have a slide into the sea. There is also a floating bar nearby for when all that sunbathing makes you thirsty.
Royal Caribbean claims that the Oasis Lagoon will be the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean and the ideal place to take it easy. There will be a sloped beach entry, sun loungers positioned on islands in the middle of the water and an inviting swim-up bar.
These additions are all very exciting but there’s more. Other dining venues such as El Loco Fresh, a Mexican-inspired affair, and Sugar Beach, a parlour full of sweets and ice cream, will also make an appearance. This is alongside a new, time travelling ice skating show in Studio B, called 1977: Adventure Through Time, and alien-battling laser quest for all the family to enjoy.
The new-look CocoCay will offer three different places to dine during your day on the exclusive island, providing a choice of fresh dishes and classic family favourites. The Chill Grill is where you can grab some BBQ meats or pour yourself a cold beer from the self-serve station, Captain Jack’s is the home of sticky chicken wings and fries, and the Oasis Beach Club serves up freshly caught fish dishes.
