The Best Stage Shows At Sea

During a cruise, there are so many ways to entertain yourself. Depending on which cruise line you sail with, you could be doing anything from crazy golf to skydiving, but one of the best ways to spend your evening is in the ship’s theatre. Every ship will have at least a couple of different shows on offer during your time on board, giving you the chance to laugh, sing and dance your way into the night.

Performances do change regularly but the performers are always of a high standard, often having spent time on the stages of Broadway or London’s West End. But what are some of the best stage shows at sea right now?

Grease – Harmony of the Seas

Grease Harmony of the Seas

When Royal Caribbean launched Harmony of the Seas this year, most of the focus was on intriguing new additions such as the Perfect Storm waterslides and the terrifying dry slide known as the Abyss. However, there is a lot more on board this mammoth ship to keep you entertained. For example, an evening in the Royal Theater can be spent in the company of Danny, Sandy and the rest of the gang as you enjoy a performance of the classic musical Grease. This polished Broadway show is guaranteed to have you singing along, even if you don’t realise you’re doing it. So, if you find yourself on board Royal Caribbean's newest ship, make like Greased Lightin’ and take a seat.

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert – Norwegian Epic

Priscilla Norwegian Epic

This long-running musical has been wowing audiences all over the world for many years and now you can grab a dose of feel-good fun during your cruise on board Norwegian Epic. This incarnation of the well-known story of three divas attempting to make their way across the Australian Outback includes a healthy sprinkling of 70s and 80s disco classics and a dizzying array of outrageous costumes. Bring your best moves as you’re in for a treat.

Shakespeare Performances – Queen Mary 2

Shakespeare Book

Cunard have been offering abridged Shakespeare plays on their transatlantic crossings for more than 13 years now and they are not performed by your everyday actors and actresses. By partnering with RADA, the cruise line has ensured that guests on board the recently relaunched Queen Mary 2 have the opportunity to enjoy fantastic shows that change on a yearly basis. And what better year to take advantage of this than during what would have been the Bard’s 400th birthday year? To celebrate, Nona Shepphard, who runs the programme, has created a compilation of some of the best scenes across all of Shakespeare’s works. There are also acting workshops run by RADA to help you perfect your own skills.

Frozen – Disney Wonder

Frozen Characters Disney

Disney’s most successful movie in recent years is getting a makeover to create the first ever stage performance of the story at sea. ‘Frozen: A Musical Spectacular’ will debut on board Disney Wonder in November 2016 and will feature all of your favourite characters and a storyline that brings you “everything you already known about Frozen and more”. With a mix of live actors and special effects, all members of the family will be amazed as they are transported to Arendelle for an evening that is sure to contain the usual dose of Disney magic.

There are so many excellent stage performances at sea, ensuring that there’s always something new and exciting to put a smile on your face. If you wish to see any of the shows mentioned here or many more besides, call our team today and we’ll help you find the perfect cruise.
