The Best Restaurant Concepts At Sea

The number of celebrity chefs and refined restaurants making their way onto cruise ships has increased in the last few years, meaning that some of the best food can be tasted whilst sailing the seas. Food is a big consideration during any cruise holiday. Passengers are looking for a good balance of quality and variety so that they don’t end up dining on the same dish every night of their trip.

Exciting restaurant concepts help to keep things fresh and provide fun environments in which to savour the different cuisines on offer. Here are some of the best in the cruise industry at the moment.

Wonderland – Royal Caribbean

Wonderland Anthem of the Seas

In the same way that Alice was greeted by a strange and unexpected world when she fell down the rabbit hole, Wonderland beckons guests into an environment where nothing is quite as it seems. Found on board Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class ships and the brand new Harmony of the Seas, this restaurant offers food that will stir the senses and make you think about what you are eating in a totally different way. From steaming cocktails to savoury-looking dishes that end up tasting sweet, you won’t forget the evening you dined in Wonderland.

Food Republic – Norwegian Cruise Line

Food Republic Norwegian Escape

Most ships try to showcase world cuisine in their buffet areas, but if you really want to send your taste buds on a tour of the planet then Food Republic, on board Norwegian Escape, is the place to go. You can sample Far Eastern flavours alongside Mexican tacos and European classics in a modern space that has a really relaxed atmosphere. The menu is created by The Pubbelly Restaurant Group and everything is at your fingertips thanks to the tablets on every table from which you can order.

The Limelight Club – P&O Cruises

In the past, you would be able to find a supper club on every ship. Guests would delight in a delicious meal followed by top-class stage performances that created an entire night of fantastic entertainment. Nowadays, these types of restaurants are a lot rarer but P&O Cruises are bringing back this excellent dining option with Britannia’s Limelight Club. Each cruise offers four different menus and four different acts that rotate throughout the trip. Performers include singers Kiki Dee and Carmelo Luggeri, Morecambe and Wise Tribute Jonty Stephens and Ian Ashpitel and actor Dean Andrews of ‘Life on mars’ fame, whilst menu options range from line caught sea bass to prime beef fillet with a beer and molasses glaze.

Share – Princess Cruises

Ruby Princess

The premise for this restaurant on board Emerald, Ruby and Sun Princess is clear from the name and is designed to bring people together during their meal. Share’s menu is crafted by Australia celebrity chef Curtis Stone and features a range of small plates that are made to be eaten by two or more people. Particular options include twice cooked duck, butter poached lobster and tarte aux citron.

Enchanted Garden – Disney Cruise Lines

Enchanted Garden Disney Dream

Although the food is fantastic, it is the surroundings that make a meal in the Enchanted Garden such a magical experience. Found on board Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, the restaurant itself will transform before your eyes throughout the evening. The ceiling goes from depicting a bright blue sky to featuring a sunset and then a thousand shining stars. The flowers on the light fittings come to life as they ‘bloom’ and even the walls themselves change to show you different images throughout the meal.

Moderno Churrascaria – Norwegian Cruise Line

Moderno Churrascaria Norwegian Escape

Meat eaters rejoice; this is the perfect place to get your fill of your favourite cuts. With a central salad bar from which you can help yourselves to a variety of different healthy options, Moderno’s main course comes in the form of the mouth-watering skewers that regularly pay visit to your table. Pasadores (Brazilian meat carvers) will arrive bearing gifts of pork, steak, chicken, lamb and sausages before carving it in front of you. You can continue to enjoy as much meat as you like until you have to relent to a full stomach. Moderno can be found on various different NCL ships.
