We don’t know about you but all this hot weather in the UK has got us constantly craving some delicious ice cream to help cool us down. That same feeling is one we regularly have during those long sea days, when there are no clouds in the sky and thoughts turn to which flavour you want the most.
Luckily, there are some great ice cream bars aboard cruise ships – some of which allow you to help yourself and some come at an extra cost. However, you shouldn’t let that hold you back on your search for the ultimate cone.
Vanellope’s Sweets And Treats
Found on board Disney Dream, this sweet-tooth-satisfying dining venue sells a variety of sweets and chocolate alongside its ice creams.
Everything is themed around the arcade game Sugar Rush which features in the movie Wreck-it Ralph. You can even order a decadent sundae which is served in a model version of Vanellope’s car (which you get to keep) and comes with lashings of whipped cream and sauce.
Some of the regular gelato flavours includes candy cane, key lime pie and red velvet ’n’ cookies.
Trident Ice Cream Bar
Ben and Jerry’s ice cream is legendary for its fantastic flavour combinations and luxurious taste, so anybody sailing with Crystal Cruises will be interested to know that it is available on board from the ice cream bar next to the Trident Grill.
The best thing about this particular treat station, though, is that you can grab a scoop every time you walk past because it’s all included in the price of your cruise. Your waistline might not appreciate it but your bank balance definitely will.
Flavours are rotated throughout each cruise so be sure to check back daily to see what’s on the menu.
Cafe al Bacio & Gelateria
Anybody sailing with Celebrity Cruises should know to head to Cafe al Bacio & Gelateria when the sun’s rays get too hot.
By far the most exciting thing on the menu is the spaghetti-ice – a dessert created in Germany which uses ice cream to recreate the look of spaghetti. Celebrity’s ice cream bar offers Bolognese and carbonara options with either strawberry or hazelnut sauce respectively.
The café also has a choice of ice cream sandwiches and, of course, you can always grab a few scoops of gelato or sorbetto in a cup or cone.
Sugar Beach
Sugar Beach is a new concept for Royal Caribbean which debuted on board Symphony of the Seas and is now being rolled out to other ships in the fleet.
In a similar way to Vanellope’s, it tempts guests inside with a variety of sweet treats, including pick ‘n’ mix and giant chocolate bars, but the ice cream counter is the biggest draw.
Flavours such as ‘quadruple chocolate’ and ‘so very strawberry’ should satisfy your cold cravings.
Godiva
Godiva is a big name in the world of chocolate and that’s why it was big news when Cunard announced that Queen Mary 2 would be returning from her 2016 refurbishment with the addition of a Godiva chocolate shop.
As well as tasty truffles, you can also make your own ice cream here by choosing the flavour, style of cone and toppings. You’ll find these luxurious offerings within Sir Samuel’s and it is definitely worth hunting down.
Help Yourself Machines
As well as the fantastic ice cream bars and cafés listed above, many cruise ships also give you the chance to help yourself to a cold snack by using a soft serve machine. Often these are located in the buffet restaurant but you may find one tucked away on the pool deck too.
