Set A Course For These Five Destinations In 2016
Most cruisers don’t need an excuse to head out on to the open waves, but this year there are some great reasons to visit certain parts of the world. Here are five destinations in which your 2016 visit will represent perfect timing.
USA For Nature Lovers
Many cruises visit the coastal areas of the USA and this year may be one of the best to arrive on these shores, especially if you are a fan of nature. 2016 marks the centennial of the National Parks Service in America and so there are sure to be events happening throughout the year to celebrate this. The NPS have promised a look back at the people who got the service off the ground in the early years, as well as a look towards what the next 100 years will bring.
Abu Dhabi For Art Lovers
Lovers of art will be particularly interested in a new museum opening during 2016. It will be a long-awaited event as this new centre of discovery and education was initially supposed to be launched in 2012. Taking inspiration from the iconic Musée du Louvre, the Louvre Abu Dhabi will be a universal museum focussing on all religions, historical periods and artistic styles by displaying objects of archaeology and fine art. This is sure to increase the interest in Gulf cruises this year.
Panama Canal For Lovers Of All Things Big
As of April 2016, Panama Canal cruises will get even bigger. A renovation project costing over five billion dollars is nearing completion and will be ready in the coming months. Not only does this mean that travellers in 2016 will be amongst the first to see the new Post-Panamax vessels traverse this man-made waterway, there will also be many more cruises available due to the fact that the overall capacity has been doubled.
Denmark For Theatre Lovers
Whilst there is so much happening in Britain to commemorate 400 years since the death of Shakespeare, there are also events happening elsewhere in the world throughout 2016. The world’s most beloved writer will be celebrated in Denmark with a period of theatre, films and musical performances that showcase some of his most famous works. The town of Elsinore will come alive in August, as the festival centred on the Kronborg Castle (thought to be the inspiration for the setting of Hamlet) gets into full swing. What better reason is there to take a Scandinavia or Baltic cruise?
St Helena For Lovers Of The Peace And Quiet
2016 is a big year for St Helena as new transportation links are forged. Previously, the only way to reach this remote island in the Atlantic Ocean was via cruise ship or various other vessels, but this is about to change thanks to the opening of St. Helena Airport in February. Whilst this move is sure to be great for tourism on the island, it may well be the beginning of the end for peace, quiet and untouched beauty is this stunning destination.
