5 Great Winter Sun Destinations
The colder weather has really started to kick in in the UK this past week. If you’re looking for some sunshine there are still a wide range of options available to you, whether you are looking for a week cruise, a festive celebration or a worldwide exploration.
The Caribbean is possibly the quintessential winter sun cruise destination. Take in the fascinating and vibrant islands of Jamaica, Barbados, The Bahamas, Mexico, Antigua and many more. Each island has its own unique culture and heritage to experience. Dive in the crystal clear turquoise waters, lie on the white sandy beaches and enjoy the party culture.
Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line all sail throughout the Caribbean extensively over the cold winter months. If you are looking for something a bit special to enjoy the festive period, Cunard's Queen Mary 2 is sailing Transatlantic Voyages from Southampton to New York and through the Caribbean over Christmas and New Year.
The Canary Islands
The Canary Islands provide a fantastic escape for the winter period to those who prefer to cruise directly from the UK. Just 70 miles off the coast of Africa, these Spanish islands offer year round warmth, sandy beaches and lots of opportunities for exploration and adventure. The Canaries are a fantastic choice for hiking, sightseeing, watersports, or simply lying in the sunshine. Enjoy the islands of Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and La Gomera. Many Canarian cruises also take in the islands of Madeira and Cape Verde along the way.
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, Cruise & Maritime Voyages and P&O Cruises all sail to the Canary Islands over the winter period.
The Indian Ocean
Cruises to the Indian Ocean offer something for everyone. From the sights and smells of the buzzing Indian cities of Mumbai and Cochin, to the idyllic island paradises of Mauritius, the Seychelles and the Maldives. Explore tropical rainforests, dine on exotic fruit and seafood, wade in calm bays and see some of the world’s rarest species in their natural habitats.
Sail to the Indian Ocean with Seabourn and Oceania Cruises this winter.
Australia has a wealth of famous and spectacular sights fro you to enjoy. Take in Sydney Harbour with its famous bridge and Opera House, relax on the glorious golden sands of Bondi Beach. For a more active approach take advantage of diving opportunities in the stunning Great Barrier Reef or experience bustling cosmopolitan cities such as Melbourne and Adelaide.
Explore New Zealand with its beautiful and varied landscape. Sail through the scenic UNESCO World Heritage Site fjords region, scale rugged mountains and visiting the busy capital of Wellington.
Seabourn, Royal Caribbean and Princess Cruises all sail throughout Australasia throughout the winter. Alternatively, you can cruise to Australasia directly on a World Cruise with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, Cunard and P&O Cruises, departing January 2016.
The Far East
The Far East is growing in popularity as a cruise destination and with such a diverse cultural and historical heritage it is no surprise why.
