4 Cruise Ships Arriving Next Year
With the arrival of Britannia and Harmony of the Seas in the last two consecutive years, we have been spoilt by some of the largest cruise ships in the industry. However, whilst there aren’t quite as many big names entering the industry in 2017, there are still some fantastic new additions to look forward to. With Star Clippers launching the largest tall ship at sea and Norwegian Cruise Line breaking the boundaries of what can be put on a cruise ship, yet again, next year is sure to be an exciting period.
Our anticipation for the newest NCL vessel can be shown by the blog post we wrote back in April regarding all the exciting additions that will be on board. Joining Norwegian Escape (which was launched at the back end of 2015) in the Breakaway Plus class, Norwegian Joy will be the largest ship in the fleet. On board there will be the usual fantastic mix of restaurants, bars and lounges but there will also be some very intriguing first-time entertainment facilities. Among these are a go kart track and an indoor leisure centre featuring a VR cinema and hovercraft bumper cars. Norwegian Joy is due to make her debut in the spring.
MSC Cruises are preparing to outdo the capacity of the largest cruise ship in the world when they launch MSC Meraviglia in May. With a maximum capacity of 5,700 passengers she will be able to hold around 200 more guests than Harmony of the Seas but will not be quite as large or heavy. ‘Meraviglia’ means ‘wonder’ in Italian and this new vessel is sure to be a thing of beauty for cruisers to behold. RFD wristband technology is to be used for getting into your cabin, paying for spa treatments and even keeping track of children, meaning the latest technology will be at your disposal. As far as entertainment goes, the breathtaking Cirque du Soleil will perform a brand new, custom-made performance in the supper club setting of the Carousel Lounge.
From a ship that will hold over 5,000 people to one that has the capacity for just 596. Having said that, Silver Muse will be the largest ship in the operator’s fleet and will herald a new era of ultra-luxurious cruising when she arrives in the spring. 2016 saw the arrival of Seven Seas Explorer, a ship dubbed the more luxurious at sea and which is home to the most expensive suite on the waves, and this is a fantastic response from Silversea. Silver Muse will be an all-suite ship with the highest number of large suites in the fleet. She will also feature an impressive eight dining areas (including a new hot lava stone concept) and an area dedicated to those who like to end their meal with a glass of cognac and a cigar.
It has been 15 years since Star Clippers, experts in tall ship cruising, launched a new vessel. However, 2017 will see the arrival of the largest ship of its kind – a five-masted masterpiece made in the image of the legendary France II. Powered by a mixture of almost 40,000 square feet of sail and cutting-edge, fuel efficient engines, Flying Clipper is going to be a magnificent sight. A big emphasis is placed on facilities for water sports, hence the platform at the stern where guests can take part in kayaking and water skiing. One of the plunge pools on board will also be dedicated to scuba divers, who will benefit from the tutelage of a Diver Master. Just like other Star Clippers ships, guests will have the opportunity to join in with some of the sailing duties and even climb up the mast to the crow’s nest.
