3 Unique Celebrations At Sea
Any cruiser will tell you that no cruise is the same, but some are a lot more different than others. With the cruise industry still growing, operators are doing everything they can to make their ships and itineraries stand out and get people on board with their brand, literally. And one way of doing this is to create special days to celebrate at sea which are unique, fun and newsworthy.
Here are three such occasions which will offer an interesting way to spend your time during your cruise.
Darth Days Are Coming
Disney Cruise Line recently announced that selected 2016 sailings on board their ships will feature a Star Wars day. The event will give guests the opportunity to dress up as their favourite characters whilst there will also be a chance to meet, and have your picture taken with, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and various stormtroopers.
The day will also include Star Wars themed fun and games around the pool and during the evening entertainment as Disney joins the dark side for one day only. This is likely to appeal to fans of all ages and will culminate in an extravagant deck party featuring a light show and fireworks. For full details of the selected dates visit our Disney Cruise Line page.
This is an event that is celebrated differently depending on which operator you sail with, but is always an important part of any cruise that crosses the equator. Originally just a navy tradition, the crossing of the equator was seen as a rite of passage for sailors, and anyone who hadn’t achieved this feat before would be put to the test on the day the ship crossed the line.
Many world cruises will travel across the equator and nowadays cruise ships hold events to appease Neptune, the God of the sea, so that he allows the vessel safe passage across. Themed activities usually take place on board, with certain cruise lines inviting their guests to dress up of Neptune himself for a fancy dress ball. If you are crossing the line for the first time you are known as a ‘Pollywog’ and are liable to playful derision from experienced ‘Shellbacks’ who have done it all before.
The Places You’ll Go
Carnival Cruises are serving up a healthy dollop of green eggs and ham on selected cruises, as the first day of your trip is filled with, not just Thing 1 and Thing 2, but all things Dr Seuss. Children will love the special themed breakfasts, character parades, interactive story times and photo opportunities with the Cat in the Hat, the Lorax, the Grinch, and other familiar faces.
So will you have fun during a Carnival cruise? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed).
