If you like swimming or relaxing around the pool then Black Watch is the perfect ship for you. With two main swimming pools, two exercise pools and three Jacuzzis it has the most swimming opportunities out of all the Fred Olsen ships
The main pool areas are perfect for taking a relaxing dip to cool off or for swimming a few lengths to prepare yourself for that evening’s eating extravaganza. The whirlpools are a real luxury on board this cruise ship and can serve as a serene place to sit with a drink or the ultimate setting for a catch up with a friend. Lastly the small exercise pools are the perfect size for you to take part in some aqua aerobics or stretch those tired legs after a day of sightseeing.
If all the relaxing and laying around has made you slightly restless then why not head to the gym to work off a few calories. You’ll be more motivated than normal thanks to the fantastic sea views and there are plenty of different machines to try out including treadmills, exercise bikes and rowing machines.
There are also dance and aerobics classes that you can join in with throughout the day and the friendly instructors will demonstrate anything you are unfamiliar with.
If there is one place on the ship that is a veritable oasis of tranquillity then it has to be the Atlantic Spa and Salon. Guests can choose to pamper themselves with a variety of different body treatments or opt for a trim and manicure in the salon.
Whether you are preparing for a formal evening or just wanting to spoil yourself rotten, there is so much on offer in this part of the ship that you can’t help but feel relaxed once you leave.
It is advised that treatments are booked in advance. The spa itself is open between 8am and 8pm with the occasional late closure at 10pm.
The library can be your source of further adventure or the place that you go to escape other busier areas of the ship. The shelves are filled with fiction, non-fiction and everything in between and could be your gateway into even more distant lands.
Whether you enjoy playing cards competitively or just as a way to socialise with friends, the card room is a great place to spend a couple of hours during your time on Black Watch. Guests are free to come and go as they like if they are playing a leisurely hand and there may also be tournaments staged by the ship’s crew to take part in.
If Bridge isn’t really your thing then the tables can also be used to complete a jigsaw or play a friendly board game.
Why not end the luxurious afternoon that you started in the Jacuzzi by spending some time relaxing in the sauna?
When the weather is nice, the sun deck can be a hive of activity with all sorts of things going on. As some guests catch a few rays by lying on the sun loungers, others can get sporty by practising their golf or tennis action in the nets provided.
The Promenade stretches all the way around the Lido Deck and can provide a great route for a twilight walk or an early morning jog. There is plenty of space to watch as the crew prepares for sailaway or to simply stand back and admire the beautiful views you are greeted with. Some of this space is also often used for a rousing shuffleboard game or quoits match.
